Toronto Abandons Its' Homeless

Now Magazine - January 24, 2019

In 2016, more than 16,000 individuals used the city's emergency shelter system at least once. About 11 per cent of those individuals used the system for more than a year. Almost one quarter were homeless for at least six months.

As dangerous as it is to sleep outside, for women the city’s shelter system can be just as unsafe – an estimated one in five homeless women using Toronto’s shelter system have been sexually assaulted.

Those under the Gardiner (The Gardiner Expressway) are strong human beings, doing their best to survive. It is tragic and wrong that we have abandoned them.
